Whether you’re planning, popping, or finished pushing I am sure you understand a million times over how important your health is to create and grow a healthy bub, whether that baby be inside or earthside.
This program translates the medical ho-ha and the most up to date scientific research into real talk. Its professional guidance during times ladies require it most- pregnancy.
Pregnancy is the critical period when nutrition needs are greatly increased and food and supplements greatly influence the health outcomes of momma and bub. When mommas nutrition intake isn’t supplying key nutrients needed of a growing belly and bub, it can lead to unfavourable outcomes including miscarriage, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, preterm birth, and cognitive and growth and cognitive development delays in your future child.
The maternal program is broken down into 3 stages;
Ladies can commence at any stage, although starting at stage 1 is recommended for optimal results.
Maternal nutrition health is especially important for bub when planning, pregnant and breastfeeding because bub relies solely on their mummas to get adequate nutrients to grow and develop.
STAGE 1, Preconception:
This stage is all about getting ladies ready for conception and healthy pregnancy. I focus on replenishing your nutrient status and stores, eliminating toxins, moving towards a healthy weight, and commencing vital high-quality supplements. In other words, all the factors important for fertility and the health of your future bub. For ladies who already have children, this stage is greatly beneficial to replenish your body after pregnancy and lactation.
Preconception care should be initiated 3 months prior to the baby-making dance as changes take consistency and time. As a dietitian, I liaise up with your chosen obstetrician during this time to ensure the best team approach to optimise your health, your fertility and your pregnancy outcomes.
Initial Consultation (3-4 months prior to conception, 60-90 minutes)
This is where I gather all the information about you that is required to create your pre-conception plan. Including medical history, factors influencing intake, previous dieting history, anthropometry, and analysis of blood tests and genetic profile (optional). Specific nutrition recommendations, education, goal setting and counselling is included. Initial consultations are 60 minutes in duration, following on from the initial consultation you will receive:
Individualised supplementation plan:
This includes essential high-quality, evidenced-backed supplements that are required to replenish your nutrient stores, balancing hormones and preparing your body to grow a healthy bub. Supplementation is vital during this time, as the body requires high amounts of vital nutrients that cannot be attained through diet alone.
Customised meal plan (optional):
A 7-day flexible meal plan targeted at your individualised needs, whether that be reducing weight without restricting vital nutrients, improving health and wellbeing, minimising supplementation, improving gut health, decreasing the stress around eating, cheating maintainable and sustainable eating habits, minimising food waste and preparing your body for pregnancy. It provides you with simple, healthy meal options that nourish your body and fit within your schedule without the feeling of being on a diet, a shopping list to take the stress out of what to eat, and an option to get your man involved in eating healthy.
Review consultations (every 4 weeks, 30-45 minutes)
During this time I will measure your progress, reassess your progress, make any required changes to your nutrition and supplementation plan and support you with any challenges or changes that arise. Top-ups of your supplement will also be provided to you during this time.
STAGE 2: PREGNANCY:
This stage is all about nourishing your growing belly and bub while supporting your body nutritionally through pregnancy symptoms you may face. It’s a critical time when bub relies solely on you for vital nutrients required for healthy growth and development.
Each trimester brings along different nutritional needs and different challenges, such as morning sickness, a weakened immune system, aches and pains, and cravings. Stage 2 involves:
